Abstract

One of the indicators of sustainable development in rural and agricultural fields is the animal husbandry industry. This research presents the method for scientific and appropriate planning for improving and developing livestock production to increase the productivity of livestock production and related industries in order to use the existing potentials, abilities, and capacities optimally. The statistical population consisted of three groups of experts from the Deputy of Livestock Affairs of the Agricultural Jihad Organization, experts from the Animal Science Research Department of the Agricultural Research Center, and representatives of active private sector organizations in Lorestan province. The collection tool was a closed questionnaire consisting of 70 questions prepared in 7 indexes. The results of the ranking of factors and indicators using the TOPSIS technique showed that the hands of the process of supplying inputs and sales and upgrading the activity capacity are the priority and hands of upstream documents, sustainable development plans, mechanisms, perspectives and strategies, and considerations and social requirements and institutions were placed in the following preferences, respectively. By investigating all the sustainable development indicators of the province, Borujerd city, with a ratio of closeness to the ideal option (A*) of 0.79, has won the first rank among the cities of the area. Rumeshgan, Poldokhtar, Azna, Selseleh, Delfan, Chegani, Khorramabad, Aligodarz cities and Durood with the ratio of closeness to the ideal option of 0.76, 0.55, 0.54, 0.53, 0.51, 0.5, 0.46, 0.33 and 0.32 were placed in the following ranks, respectively.

Analytical investigation of factors affecting the sustainability of livestock industry development: a case study of Lorestan province

Extended Abstract

Introduction

One of the indicators of sustainable development in rural and agricultural fields is the animal husbandry industry. On the one hand, the activity in this sector is affected by environmental and climatic conditions, and on the other hand, it is closely related to other sectors and sub-sectors such as agriculture, natural resources, industry, commerce, transportation, etc. For this reason, achieving major goals such as food security, sustainable employment and increasing production in this sector requires understanding the current situation, facilities and activities, explaining the weaknesses and strengths, threats and opportunities, and then formulating long-term goals and strategies for sustainable development in this sub-sector. This comprehensive study has been designed and implemented in order to explain the factors and investigate their effect on the sustainable development of the animal husbandry industry in Lorestan province.

Materials and Methods

This research is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-analytical in nature. In this part of the research, questionnaires were designed to determine the influential factors on the sustainable development of the province's animal husbandry industry according to the statistical community of the project. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were evaluated by a panel of experts and by using the opinions of experts specializing in livestock affairs and reliability through a guided study, through calculating the Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Since the alpha coefficient for different indicators is more than 0.8, therefore, the research tool has the necessary reliability. The statistical community of research in Lorestan province includes three groups. a) Experts of the Vice-Chancellor of Livestock Affairs of Lorestan Province Agricultural Jihad Organization, other institutions and subordinate units of the Provincial Agricultural Jihad Organization related to livestock, poultry, and aquatics, b) Animal Science Research Department of Agricultural Research Center, c) Representatives of active private sector organizations. The sample included 55 certified experts. Based on this, the primary dimensions of research indicators and variables are presented as follows:

Indicators for determining the vision, goals, and macro strategies in upstream documents

Indicators related to the process and supply cycles of inputs and sales of livestock products

Indicators related to the perspective, goals, and strategies of sustainable development of the animal husbandry industry

Indicators for improving the capacity of the existing economic activities of the animal husbandry industry

Priority Indicators of Sustainable development programs in the animal husbandry industry

Indicators of effective Mechanisms in the sustainable Development of the animal husbandry industry

Indicators of social and institutional considerations and requirements for the implementation of sustainable development plans and projects

Evaluation and analysis of questionnaire data was done using descriptive and inferential statistics and TOPSIS method.

Results and Discussion

The results of the ranking of factors and indicators using the TOPSIS technique showed that the hands of the process of supplying inputs and sales and upgrading the activity capacity are the priority and hands of upstream documents, sustainable development plans, mechanisms, perspectives and strategies and considerations, and social requirements and institutions were placed in the following preferences, respectively. By investigating all the sustainable development indicators of the province, Borujerd city, with a ratio of closeness to the ideal option (A*) of 0.79, has won the first rank among the cities of the area, and Rumeshgan, Poldokhtar, Azna, Selseleh, Delfan, Chegani, Khorramabad, Aligodarz cities and Durood with the ratio of closeness to the ideal option of 0.76, 0.55, 0.54, 0.53, 0.51, 0.5, 0.46, 0.33 and 0.32 were placed in the following ranks, respectively. Developing a sustainable development plan for the Lorestan livestock industry is a key step toward achieving the goals of livestock sub-sector development. This program with a comprehensive view and a special view of animal husbandry in the province with the headline of general land management policies, while emphasizing the growth of competitive production based on knowledge and productivity in the framework of a resilient economy and constructive interaction with the world, has been developed as a sustainable development program.

Conclusion

The results of the study indicated appropriate and scientific planning to improve and develop livestock production in order to increase the productivity of livestock, poultry, other poultry and bees based on existing upstream documents, macroeconomic policies of the country, and a comprehensive view of the requirements of sustainable development programs in the livestock industry Provinces.
